The Epstein-designed and engineered Riverview Bridge has been selected as the winner in the Infrastructure/Industrial Construction category for the Chicago Building Congress 2020 Merit Awards!

The Merit Awards have celebrated the building industry since 1956 by singling out the noteworthy projects in the greater Chicagoland area that were built during the past three years.

Completed in November 2019, Riverview Bridge of the North Branch Riverfront Trail completes a critical link in the off-arterial trail, spanning from the city core on the south to the extensive set of northern trails that extend to the Botanic Gardens. By running below Addison, and running off-street to a new bridge over the river to California Park, a nearly contiguous 2-mile-long recreational trail (the 312 RiverRun) is created between Clark Park and Horner Park.

With a safe and secure connection between Horner, California and Clark Parks, the parks themselves are enhanced nominally, creating a single from the set. Providing a multipurpose bridge over the river is the key to the singular character of this trail segment and promises to reintroduce the river to thousands of Chicago residents.

The 16-span reinforced concrete structure is approximately 1010’0” long and 16’-0” wide with a 14’ path. It's supported on single column caissons spaced at 60’-0” intervals and it has 7 horizontal curves varying from 100’-0” radius to 1600’-0” radius.

This year's ceremony was held live virtually. Our Greg Osborne, P.E., LEED AP, who served as the Phase II Design Project Manager for Riverview, accepted the award on Epstein's behalf.

Merit Awards are presented for construction in the following nine categories, which aim to reflect the industry's ever-changing landscape: Education, Healthcare, Residential/Hospitality, Commercial Construction under $50M, Commercial Construction over $50M, Renovation and Adaptive Reuse Under $15M, Renovation and Adaptive Reuse Over $15M, Infrastructure or Industrial Construction, and Interior Build-Out.
