The Epstein-designed and engineered Riverview Bridge was selected by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois (ACEC) to receive two awards at the 2021 Engineering Excellence Awards ceremony!

Riverview Bridge won an Honor award as well as a Judge's Choice award. According to the ACEC, Honor awards are given to projects being recognized for exceptional engineering that met the needs of the client and benefitted the public welfare. A Judge's Choice award is given to the highest rated project in each of the 12 different engineering excellence categories. Riverview Bridge received this award in the Structural Systems category.

Our design strategy for Riverview Bridge involved the unconventional solution of disengaging the path from the riverbank and elevating the entire structure above the water level. This solution elevates the trail on piers, and locates it within the river, which preserves the maximum amount of vegetation, and riverbank stability, while minimizing scouring and bank erosion. The bridge design also creates a shadow in the river near the bank, which is beneficial for fish looking to escape the heat and predators from above.

We are very proud of the engineering solutions our team was able to develop for this multi-purpose pedestrian bridge, and are equally as pleased to be recognized by the ACEC-IL for our efforts!
