Members of Epstein’s civil engineering and transportation planning group attended last week’s Active Transportation Alliance 2022 Awards Gala at a great venue in the west loop. The event honored the region’s most important active transportation champions, and raised funds to advance Active Trans’ work to create cleaner, healthier, more equitable transportation options.
Among this year’s honorees were U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth and Illinois State Representative Anna Moeller, who both received the Public Leadership Award. Senator Duckworth is responsible for including in the bipartisan infrastructure law, $1.75B that will jump-start the process for bringing bus, train, and subway stations around the nation into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Representative Moeller served as the chief sponsor of state legislation that will bring better walking and biking options to state roads. The legislation requires the Illinois Department of Transportation to pay all the costs of walking and biking improvements on state roads — as it does for driving-related infrastructure.
