Renata Pajerska, NCQLP, LEED BD+C, our new lighting designer, received the Section Award last week from the Chicago chapter of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America for her work on the Elgin Riverside Drive Promenade. Renata designed this project at her previous firm, Primera Engineers, and accepted the award along with Primeras Deborah Steimel and Lindsey Fimek. The Elgin Riverside project involved developing a large urban park immediately adjacent to the Fox River and Downtown retail core.

Renata, Deborah and Lindsey were tasked with creating a joyful, fun, and inviting place to enjoy the river views by emphasizing the marine aspect of this project by illuminating the Promenades Sails through the use of color changing LED light fixtures. Additionally, these energy efficient lights have pre-programmed scenes and can be controlled/switched automatically to further save energy.

The lighting design for the Promenade also created a sense of place within the urban environment by connecting Elgin with the nature/river by featuring park-theme lighting to maintain consistency within the municipality.

Also all of the Promenades architectural features are emphasized with accent lighting, and the trees are designed to be up-lit with seasonal holiday lighting - all further creating a welcoming and safe environment.

Lastly, the pedestrian walkways are also well lit in order to further provide safety and, to Renata, Deborah and Lindseys credit, are also aesthetically pleasing through the use of bollards as well as step lighting approach.

Congratulations Renata as well as to Deborah and Lindsey at Primera! Job very well done!
