We are pleased to welcome Brooklyn Colbert, our new Project Coordinator, to Epstein’s DesignBuild department! She will primarily be responsible for documentation maintenance, which includes ensuring all certificates, change orders and subcontracts are up-to-date, accounted for and filed appropriately. Prior to joining Epstein, Brooklyn was with KTGY Simeone Deary Design Group working on hospitality projects. She had the pleasure of working with many custom hospitality spaces at Yours Truly in Washington, D.C., Toll Brothers West Commerce in Dallas, Texas, and the PGA Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Brooklyn grew up in Riverside, Iowa. Her high school, while very small (slightly more than 30 kids in her class) was surrounded by cornfields, which is a true statement of Iowa and something Brooklyn loved. She then attended the University of Iowa and studied anthropology, art history and museum studies. She also spent a lot of time volunteering at the university’s museum program as a docent and for the museum’s special events.

She likes to say she lucked into this industry. Construction, architecture and interior design were all fields she was aware of, but didn’t think of actively pursuing until the right opportunity came up. “I love the tangible quality of construction; a lot of little pieces are working together over time to create a very real space that will be visited, used and produce its own thing. It’s cool to be one of those ‘little pieces’ that makes that happen,” she said.

When the weather in Chicago is cooperating, Brooklyn loves to be outside with family and friends. She enjoys roller skating, biking about the city, playing badminton and Frisbee, going on nature walks, beach hangs and grilling out – quite literally anything to be outside! When the weather isn’t cooperating, which hardly ever happens here in Chicago, Brooklyn will typically catch up on the latest shows, play board games, listen to podcasts or craft some yarn art. She has also recently discovered latch hook (making rugs by pulling loops of yarn or fabric through a stiff woven base) and it has been a great hobby to pick up.

Brooklyn lives in northwest Chicago with her fiancé, Ben, and their cat, Audrey. They both have family nearby, which means they get plenty of auntie and uncle time with their nieces and nephews. They are in the process of planning their wedding in New Orleans, and cannot wait to get their Midwest friends and family down there. New Orleans is one of Brooklyn’s favorite places; she even makes a point to visit every year.

Once again, welcome to Epstein, Brooklyn! We are delighted to have you join us.
