The 2nd Annual Walk and Roll Niles event took place last week, and Epstein’s Tim Gustafson, Senior Planner, was in attendance to share the good news of the plan’s recent adoption, and join the fun with area vendors, village departments, and the Safety Town course to teach kids about safe walking and bicycling habits. There were tacos, giveaways, bike helmet fittings, and music! Epstein is proud to prepare the Village of Niles’ Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan in which our team met regularly with the Village’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Group (BPAG) to guide the development of the plan and stakeholder engagement activities.

Epstein conducted a working design training and charrette-style meeting with the BPAG to identify project recommendations. Our team prepared a recommended bicycle and pedestrian network, developed cost estimates, and prepared conceptual engineering plans for a corridor within the Village to illustrate the potential design of a high-priority project. Throughout the project process, Epstein worked closely with the Village departments of Public Works and Community Development, and met with each of the Village’s neighboring municipalities and agencies to coordinate on project progress including Morton Grove, Park Ridge, Skokie, the City of Chicago, IDOT, Cook County, and Maine Township. As a supplemental task, Epstein assisted the Village for a grant application to begin implementation of a high-priority project identified in the plan.
