Our Top 100 Projects countdown ended 2021 by featuring our current headquarters at 600 West Fulton; the countdown starts back up in the new year by covering our longtime headquarters at 2011 Pershing Road, located within the heart of Chicago’s Central Manufacturing District (CMD).

The 2011 structure was originally constructed in 1946 right next to the CMD’s iconic Clock Tower building at 2001 Pershing Road, a building that housed Epstein's offices from our inception in 1921 through 1946. Originally built to house 35 employees, the 2011 building went through multiple expansions, including the one you see here from May 1960 - an expansion that increased the building to 35,000 square feet and had space for more than 200 staff members.

The 1960 expansion featured a glass enclosed entrance gallery showcasing our latest work. The gallery also looked onto an outdoor garden atrium. In addition, new space featuring extensive natural light was created for our architectural and engineering departments. An interesting side note with regard to this expansion is that all conference rooms and private offices were specified with different examples of modernist furniture, lighting, carpeting and wall treatments. This was done to showcase to our clients what could be done in their spaces as well.

Epstein was located at 2011 Pershing Road until 1983, when we moved to our current headquarters. The 2011 Pershing Road building thankfully still stands and is home to our friends at National Latino Education Institute. In a gesture of kindness to the Epstein family, the NLEI has named this facility the A. Epstein Center in honor of our founder, Abraham Epstein.
