Over the past decade the City of Chicago has made a concerted effort to invest in the Lakefront, the Chicago River, natural areas and recreational opportunities in neighborhoods across the city. The Riverview Bridge, which will complete a critical link in the riverfront trail spanning from the city core to the extensive set of northern trails, is a prime example of this civic investment. By running off-road and below Addison Street, the Riverview Bridge will span over the river to California Park, creating a nearly contiguous 2-mile long recreational trail called the 312 RiverRun. Reaching more than 1,000 feet long and 16 feet wide, the Riverview Bridge will be the longest pedestrian river bridge in the city. It will have a vertical clearance of more than 18 feet to accommodate recreational use by boaters and its separation from the arterial streets will eliminate the need for users to cross major streets, enhancing pedestrian safety.
