Kevin Christensen, PE, LEED AP featured in Consulting-Specifying Engineer Magazine

Epsteins director of MEP engineering, Kevin Christensen, PE, LEED AP, recently participated in a MEP Roundtable discussion in Consulting-Specifying Engineer (CSE) magazine about High-Tech Designs for Hotels. The CSE article recapped the thoughts of five leading hospitality focused engineers like Kevin and their views on the following; trends impacting hotel design; how the use of BIM is impacting hotel engineering; which codes/standards should be referenced when designing hospitality spaces; the challenges of fire and life safety designs for hotels; the unique requirements of hotel HVAC systems; and, lastly, if variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems or chilled beams have been specified for hospitality projects.

Kevin, who has over 30 years of engineering experience, is particularly well-suited to discuss MEP/FP engineering of hotels as hes overseen the design of numerous hospitality projects at Epstein. These engineering assignments include the recently completed Conrad Chicago, a project that Epsteins engineers were responsible for converting the upper 13 floors of the commercial office building at 101 East Erie into a five-star luxury hotel under the Conrad by Hilton flag. In addition, Kevin has led Epstein engineers on the renovations to Downtown Chicagos Residence Inn/SpringHill Suites and the Westin Chicago Northwest in Itasca, Illinois. Currently, Kevin is directing the efforts of Epsteins MEP/FP engineers in a nationwide renovation program for La Quinta, a plan that involves modernizing hotels across the United States.
