This past Thursday, March 16th, Joe Romano, PE was promoted from senior project engineer to chief electrical engineer. As chief electrical engineer, Joe has full responsibility for the overall technical quality of Epsteins Chicago-based electrical systems design, as well as the training and development of our electrical engineering staff. Joe also assists Epsteins director of MEP/FP engineering, Kevin Christensen, PE, in the scheduling of staff as well as business development responsibilities for the MEP/FP group.

Joe joined Epstein in 2005 shortly after graduating with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Illinois at Chicago. During his nearly 12-year tenure at Epstein Mr. Romano has provided electrical design and project management services for a variety of project types including food processing & manufacturing facilities, distribution centers, residential developments, education facilities, office buildings, data centers, airports, and hotels.

McCormick Place Convention Center West Expansion

Some of the more significant projects Joe has designed and managed include the $882M West Expansion to McCormick Place Convention Center which involved helping to ensure a complete and proper installation of this massive 2.4M sf facilities complex electrical systems. These systems included 480V and 120V distribution as well as 12KV substations that fed some of the larger equipment. In addition, Joe was our project engineer for a nearly 600,000 sf renovation of an existing warehouse distribution facility into a powder process plant facility for a nutraceutical powder blending company in Aurora, Illinois.

Currently, Joe is leading our engineering efforts for the replacement of OHare International Airports Emergency and Standby Power System Generators 1-6 located within the H&R Plant. This significant project, which is currently in the final stages of bidding, involves providing greater system functionality and efficiency during emergencies in which normal operations have been impacted.
