Overview

Epstein was responsible for the civil engineering design for this 60-story office high-rise in downtown Chicago.

The civil scope included a sanitary sewer connection to the City of Chicago public sewer, dual water main services for the building domestic water and fire protection, and storm sewer routing to the Chicago River. The storm sewer design included the use of a Vortechnics separator to remove a minimum of 80% total suspended solids prior to the water discharging to the river.

The building utilizes river water for the cooling system which were applicable for LEED credits. Epstein was also responsible for designing a 48 diameter intake and 24 diameter discharge connection to the river wall and obtaining permits for these connections from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, the United States Army Corps of Engineers, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District, and the City of Chicago Department of Sewers and Department of Transportation.
