We are pleased to welcome Alexus Davis, our new Design Professional joining the Architecture department!

Alexus comes to us from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Architecture Studies and her Masters of Architecture. Go Fighting Illini! Alexus says architecture is a fit for her because its the perfect combination of science and art.

Throughout undergrad, Alexus participated in probably way too many extracurricular activities. However, she dedicated most of her time to the National Organization of Minority Architecture Students (NOMAS) and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

NOMAS is an organization similar to the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS), where the goal is to foster a sense of community and provide assistance to minority students in the universitys architecture program. Alexus was involved in NOMAS throughout her entire college career, and was even president for 2.5 years and then served as a student advisor for 3. While president, she planned and executed three very successful symposiums on campus, where she was able to bring in fellows of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) like Dina Griffin and Rose Sheng. Alexus plans to continue participating in the organization professionally.

She says joining the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, which is made up of predominately college-educated African-American women, was one of the best decisions shes ever made, adding that it taught her the meaning of excellence academically and professionally.

Alexus grew up in Houston, Texas, though she was born in Chicago and her family lives here. Despite attending high school in Texas, she spent a lot of time in Chicago over the summer and during most school holidays, so she is no stranger to the city.

So, outside of work, Alexus likes to explore! Sometimes shell visit the beach, other times shell attend spoken word and poetry nights. She loves attending various types of art events, where she can buy unique pieces from local artists.

She also has a love for dance primarily modern, jazz, and hip hop. She was heavily invested in middle and high school, as well as the first few years of college before her life became about architecture school.

Alexus is very into fitness and wellness, having spent a lot of this past year learning how to prepare healthy foods. One of her favorite dishes to cook is chicken pesto pasta. What a coincidence, Alexus, as that just happens to be one of our favorite dishes to eat!

Im sure youve gathered that Alexus is passionate about giving back, especially to underserved communities. She is pumped to join the Epstein Community Foundation!

We are just as pumped to have you, Alexus, welcome!
