We are pleased to welcome Matt Shoor, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP BDC, our new Senior Project Architect working in our New York office!

Matt is a licensed architect, writer and educator. He received his M.Arch from the University of Oregon (go Ducks!) and his B.A. in history and art history from Middlebury College (go Panthers!).

A native of Silicon Valley, he has lived and worked in New York City since 2006. Prior to joining Epstein, Matt worked at Dattner Architects for over three years. The majority of that time was spent on an award-winning high-rise tower project, named Hub, in downtown Brooklyn.

Matt is dedicated to the future of architectural practice, and thus is the 2018 Chair of the AIA National Practice Management Knowledge Community (PMKC) Advisory Group. In that capacity, he works to assemble programming that advances the profession by melding innovative business strategies with conventional best practices, and is an advocate for strong architectural leadership training and development programs.

He is passionate about mentoring and educating a new generation of architects and citizens, both inside and outside of the industry. To that end, he is an adjunct associate professor at the New York Institute of Technology, and participates in academic juries whenever possible. In addition, he has extensive experience interacting with high school students. He has taught Sustainable Design in the Bronx and mentored those interested in architecture, construction and engineering as part of the ACE program.

Between 2011 and 2014, Matt wrote about the profession for e-Oculus, the AIA New York Chapter's bi-weekly online newsletter. In 2010 and 2012, Matt volunteered during Open House New York. He has studied language and art history in Italy, landscape design and architecture in Japan, and studio art in Boston. He was the recipient of the AIA New York Chapters 2016 Vice Presidents Citation for Professional Development and 2015 Emerging New York Architects (ENYA) Merit Award.

Matt is a proud resident of Queens. As a result, he is an ardent Mets fan, but also maintains rooting interests in the As, Giants and Red Sox. Matt admits to fondness for the Friendly Confines, and will watch a baseball game in any park besides Yankee Stadium. He also enjoys soccer, although his playing days were recently put to an end by a shoulder injury.

Culture hounds at heart, Matt and his wife, Lauren, take advantage of the music, art and food of New York City. Any weekend of the year, you can find them at an opera, play, concert, museum, botanic garden or movie. Matt is a huge jazz buff, and it helps to be in the jazz capital of the world. Matt and Lauren also love to explore New York State, and especially enjoy the scenery and wineries of the Hudson River Valley and Finger Lakes regions. Since he only visited Chicago for a brief time during the summers of 1994 and 2014, he looks forward to a return visit!

Matt, we are excited you have joined us here at Epstein!
