The 2018 Design Excellence Awards were held this past Friday, October 26th within Navy Piers Grand Ballroom. The annual awards program, presented by the Chicago chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), honors the best work by Chicago architecture firms found worldwide.

Selected by panels of architects from around the nation, the institute honors were presented in four categories: Distinguished Building, Interior Architecture, Unbuilt and Divine Detail.

Epstein was the proud recipient of two awards!

The Epstein-designed and engineered renovation and expansion to Chicagos Park Plaza Senior Living Facility received a Divine Detail award. The purpose of this award is to recognize an instance in which the expression of architectural theory becomes an artistic medium, defining the relationship between architecture and craft. In order to win this award, the work needs to set itself apart from the norm to considerations such as the concept for the detail and the originality of the design.

Epstein also won an Unbuilt award for a corporate suburban office campus for which we provided the conceptual design. The 700,000-square-foot multi-building features numerous employee amenities and sustainable design strategies. The Unbuilt award recognizes architectural design for projects that dont see completion, yet address relevant social, cultural and environmental challenges, as well as technological innovations that drive the architecture profession into the future.

The intent of the yearly awards is to honor those firms and individuals responsible for the submitted designs and their hard work. Many congratulations to all those who were involved in helping make these projects grand examples of Epsteins design capabilities!
