Epstein Transforms Existing Building into New La Quinta Inn & Suites
Chicago, August 4 -- A renovated and expanded existing building in downtown Chicago has been built into a new hotel by Epstein, the Chicago-based architecture, interiors, engineering and construction firm. With Epstein’s design and engineering services, La Quinta Inn & Suites transformed the former Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago office building with two new nine-story towers attached to the original building that create a private landscaped courtyard.
The new La Quinta Hotel & Suites facility has 241 guest rooms and suites as well as 1,670 square feet of conference meeting rooms and 3,600 square feet of retail space. The new hotel also will contain a Breakfast Room comprising 1,900 square feet, an in-house commercial laundry facility and a landscaped green roof. The building is located at the corner of Franklin and Madison Streets in the heart of downtown Chicago.
“The La Quinta project makes good use of an existing structure with additional construction to create a modern space in a premier location that can accommodate both business meetings and recreational use,” said David Scott, Epstein’s project manager and vice president. The project is contributing to reduction of the carbon footprint by utilizing district cooling provided by Thermal Chicago Corporation. (Thermal Chicago Corporation owns and operates the world’s largest interconnected district cooling system, currently serving about 100 buildings in downtown Chicago) “The green roof offers lush landscaping in the midst of a busy urban space, and benefits the building and the environment by reducing temperature extremes inside the building, absorbing stormwater runoff, improving air quality , and enhancing the urban aesthetic.
Epstein provided architectural, MEF/FP and structural engineering design services for the extensive renovation and expansion as well as pre-construction services, which included preliminary construction price estimating and cost consulting services.
