Construction on the Epstein-designed and engineered Riverview Bridge is continuing.

Our FAA licensed pilot, Dave Hilty, PE, Epstein's Project Manager in Civil Engineering, put our drone to work by capturing the project's latest progress. Watch the video here.

John Karlovitz, P.E., Epstein's Senior Civil Project Engineer, shared the following insight as to the project's current status:

"The contractor, ICC, installed a temporary aggregate causeway for moving construction equipment and materials along the east bank of the North Branch of the Chicago River. Caissons are being installed to allow for construction of the various piers required for the bridge substructure.

"Additionally, sheet piling was installed on the west bank adjacent to California Park, which is the northern terminus of the bridge."

Over the past decade, the City of Chicago has made a concerted effort to invest in the Lakefront, the Chicago River, natural areas and recreational opportunities in neighborhoods citywide. The Riverview Bridge, which will complete a critical link in the riverfront trail, spanning from the city core to the northern trails, is a prime example of this civic investment.

By running off-road and below Addison Street, the bridge will span over the river to California Park, creating a contiguous 2-mile long recreational trail called the "312 RiverRun." Reaching more than 1,000 feet long and 14 feet wide, it will be the longest pedestrian river bridge in the city. It will also have a vertical clearance of more than 18 feet to accommodate recreational boat use and its separation from the arterial streets will eliminate the need for users to cross major streets, enhancing pedestrian safety.

The bridge is scheduled to be complete in 2019.
