Construction continues on the two-building Class A Office Mennica Legacy Tower, which will be comprised of a 35-story tower and a 10-story building located in the Central Business District of Warsaw. For this project, Epstein is serving as the architect and engineer of record, as well as the design engineer for MEP and structural engineering services. Our friends at Goettsch Partners are the design architects.

The construction of the Mennica development, due to the sites relatively high water wall and the adjacent existing subway lines, is utilizing the Slurry Wall or Diaphragm Wall technique. Tom Suarez, PE, SE, Epsteins chief structural engineer and designer of Mennicas structural system explains what can be seen in the construction progress photos featured here:

Shown below is the current progress of the 35-story east tower where extensive scaffolding and shoring is needed to support the construction of the Level 4 floor slab which highlights the impressive 13.2m (43-3) height of the ground floor lobby. It is at this mechanical level that the core walls of the tower will begin a dramatic 6.65m (21-10) cantilever to the south extending beyond the building core footprint at the ground level. It is also at this level that steel beams approximately 1m (3-3) deep will be embedded into the structural concrete floor slab to support the cable net glass wall façade of the lobby below.

Additionally, the images below show the current progress of the 10-story west tower where construction has reached Level 6. Here you can see the sloping columns needed to accomplish a column transfer allowing the elimination of a column at the ground floor and create a column free entrance under the building from Zelazna Street directly into the plaza.

Lastly, Mennica is scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2019.
