Maytag
North Liberty, Iowa Epstein provided design/build services for the development of a new Midwest Regional Distribution Center for Maytag Corporation located in North Liberty, Iowa. This new 750,000 square foot facility was developed to consolidate various smaller warehouse and distribution operations located at numerous Maytag plant locations within the region. The cross-dock facility was built on a 55-acre site which included 70 truck docks, two drive-in doors and 200 spaces for truck/trailer parking and storage, in addition to an 80 car parking area. The building’s 30’ clear height and 50’ x 60’ interior bays were achieved with a pre-engineered structural steel building system enclosed with insulated pre-cast concrete wall panels. The structural bays at the dock areas are 50’ x 70’ providing a continuous 70’ clear span - the length of both sides of the building. The facility also includes all truck dock equipment, an ESFR fire suppression system, power distribution for over 40 forklift chargers, along with standard warehouse heat, ventilation and lighting systems. In addition to the warehouse area, the facility also includes a detached guard house, a 9,900 square foot office area that includes a photo studio for marketing and training use. The roughly $15 million project was constructed out of former farm fields and was completed in less than six months from the time Epstein’s construction group arrived on the site on July 5, 2004 to December 17, 2004 when Maytag received its Certificate of Occupancy.
