Grand Hyatt
Dalian, China Epstein provided environmental/energy modeling services for the Grand Hyatt Dalian, an 850,040 square foot mixed-use development in Dalian, China. Epstein's MEP engineers modeled the climate, researching Chinese weather data, and developed design strategies accordingly to the climate research. Dalian has one of the strongest wind velocities in China and wind turbines were considered at the top and at the side of the building where wind velocities will be increase due to height and building geometries. Also a shading study was performed to optimize how the shading would shelter the building from peak summer sun to reduce energy consumption. Goettsch Partners are the design architects for this facility which is scheduled to be completed in 2011. The Grand Hyatt Dalian features a 400-key hotel, 193,680 square feet of apartments, retail space, a supermarket, fitness center and parking.
