Midway Airport Concourse A

Epstein provided architectural, civil engineering, and structural engineering services for the Concourse "A" Addition project at Midway Airport in Chicago. The Concourse A addition is composed of two 2-story buildings. There is a triangular shaped building, which is connected to the existing Terminal A and the existing elevated walkway, and there is a circular satellite building which also connects to the existing elevated walkway.
The total project is approximately 56,000 square feet and features a dramatic soaring passenger hold room, with exposed structure and a full height curtain wall that is oriented to view the Airfield. It has seating for a minimum of 350 passengers, wi-fi counters, gate check-in counters, backscreens, and flight information displays.
The program also includes a mini food court in the triangular infill, with seating, food/ beverage and retail concessions spaces, toilet rooms, and an unescorted minor holdroom for the passenger's convenience.
