Landmark Condominiums
Vail, Colorado
Epstein was the architect of record for a 67,907 square foot renovation and 28,041 square foot addition to existing Landmark Condominium building in Vail, Colorado. This renovated development features 32 new underground parking spaces, a new elevator and elevator lobby core infill between the two existing buildings, a new reception and lobby, as well as 17 New condominiums; 12 are built above existing townhouses for a total of 76 total units. The units range in size from 900 square feet to 2,400 square feet for a total of 25,000 new square feet of units and elevator lobby. The exterior facades received all new skin comprising of local natural stone, fiber cement siding and new windows.
One of the most interesting aspects of this project is the new structural system developed for the additional two-stories plus mezzanine added above the existing wood framed townhouses. Instead of bearing on the existing structure, a “mega truss” was designed to bridge over the existing roof onto new columns at the north and south of the building. In essence, the existing building is being encapsulated by the addition and the new exterior skin.
Fritzlen Pierce Architects was the design architect for this renovation and addition.
