Albertson’s, Inc.
Franklin Park, Illinois
Epstein provided full-service architecture, engineering and construction management services for a perishable warehouse improvement project. The project includes a freezer expansion, warehouse remodeling and site improvements. The 220,000 square foot addition primarily contains freezer space. The expansion included (-10°F) as well as (-20°F) freezer space. Mechanization was added to the perishable area via two automated modules. The existing 200,000 square feet of perishable warehouse space was remodeled.
One of the most challenging construction management aspects of this expansion was finding an optimal location for Albertsons truck wash facility which was occupying the freezer expansion space. Albertsons needed space that would allow 53 foot trailers maneuvering space while minimizing the length of new connections to existing underground water and sewer lines. Epstein was able to utilize existing pavement for the new truck wash facility thus minimizing the cost of the relocated truck wash.
Epstein also provided construction management and inspection services with regard to the removal of 40,000 cubic feet of soil in order to construct 5 acres of new truck/trailer parking pavement. This work consisted of mass excavation and earth moving, new storm sewer, drainage structures and underground stormwater detention pipes, and full depth bituminous pavement.
