China Museum of Science & Technology
Beijing, China Taking advantage of the unique site geometry and prominent location within the Olympic Park Master Plan, the new Chinese Science and Technology Museum has been developed as a careful combination of cutting-edge technology and creative architectural expression. The facility is a careful composition of discreet pavilions, each one housing a distinctly different set of functional requirements. The Pavilions are situated on a slightly elevated plaza which serves as a public park and green space, as well as a venue for museum events and outdoor exhibits. The majority of the museum spaces and halls are located under this green plaza. The entire composition is visually and functionally unified by the elevated children's museum exhibition hall, which floats above the plaza and follows the perimeter of the park. This provides a strong definition to the boundary of the museum plaza. The intention is to develop a "Museum in a Park" which will not only satisfy the aesthetic and functional requirements of the Museum, but also serves as an amenity to the citizens of Beijing and all Olympic Park visitors.
